Intro
Hi I'm Calum, I was born in Edinburgh 1990, I have a passion for photography and more recently web design. Along with photography and web design I love to travel, in 2008 I got a one way ticket to Australia and stayed there for 14 months, during that time I also had a 2 week holiday in New Zealand. While I was in Australia I traveled up the East coast from Sydney to Noosa and eventually ended up in Melbourne for the majority of my time. Unfortunately I didn't get the time to do as much photography as I wanted to, however I'm planning on going back to New Zealand in 2011 to help make up for that!
Photography
I first started photography back in 2005, it was just something that came naturally to me. I was taking pictures of anything and everything which helped me gain experience and more of a understanding of how the camera works. Over time I became more interested in landscape photography and a holiday to the North of Scotland was perfect for practicing my landscape work. Since then I have always loved landscape photography but other areas started to interest me as well including urban, architecture, macro and more recently portraits.
In October 2007 I won part of a competition ran by Getty Images making me 'The Best Young Photographer in Scotland', following this I got the opportunity to run a photography exhibition in Stamford Arts Center which attracted over 500 people during the 1 month exhibition. As a result of the exhibition I was offered a weeks work experience with the photography magazine Practical Photography after a successful week I was invited back to work for the magazine for 2 months until I left for Australia.
Recently I have been working with a band from Sheffield (see the web design section below) doing photo shoots for them both on location and at some gigs. I am hoping to expand this and work with more bands building up my portfolio of music photography along with my other portfolios.
Web Design
I started web design back in 2006 as a way to display my photography and over the years I have taught myself all I know about it. I am hoping to do expand my work as a freelance web designer along side my photography. All my design work is done in HTML, AJAX (jQuery), CSS, PHP and MySQL, all hand coded. I am currently working on a photography social network website that I am hoping to launch by the end of the year, so watch this space!
